Generally speaking,the shoulder girdle starts to thicken and contract the capsule of tissue that encases the shoulder joint. This is what then causes the restriction of motion and pain in that area. Theories abound of related causes including but not limited to:

-Hypo or hyper-thyroidism or other glandular disorders

-Previous injury to the general shoulder area

-Extended lack of use of the shoulder area

-Various other seemingly unrelated diseases
